Day 144: Swim Practice

After a full 12 hours of sleep, I went to the swim practice session for the Bahamas class. They reserved a lane of the Swim and Dive pool so we could have a chance to use our wet suits, snorkels, and fins and practice diving down to the bottom. Besides a little pressure-induced ear pain and water in my ears that just disappeared within the last 15 minutes, the practice session was a success! All the clothes are still hanging out to dry and have been all day. That's what you get for humid dorm rooms, I guess!

I also started packing for Wednesday, mostly by making a list of everything I'll need. Other than that, today was relatively boring. It felt like Sunday all day because I didn't go to class at all (I went swimming instead - it's a real excuse...). Tuesday tomorrow... woo! One day closer to Wednesday! <3

Day 143: Pre-Bahamas Weekend

Yesterday, VERY early, we met up and left for our weekend get away to a small island off the coast. It was really foggy as we approached the coast. We were greeted with gnats the second we stepped out of the 12 passenger vans, a relationship that would last far beyond anyone would ever want. We unloaded the gear and hopped onto a boat that took us to our little island. The island is salt marsh on one side and beach on the other. I definitely liked the beach area better. Anyways, we got settled in to our lighthouse/dorm establishment and then headed to lectures. Lots of lectures. Forgive me for not writing a whole lot, but part of the class is to keep a daily log with plenty of information about everything you did that day - like this blog but lots more specific and scientific. Because of the log, I feeling a lot of deja vu. Hope you'll forgive me.

Here's a list of SOME of the things we saw (we found over 53 species the first day):
hermit crabs, fiddler crabs (sand and mud), "sea nettles" aka jellyfish, lots of tunicates (gooey thick worm looking things that squirt water out of them when you squeeze them - also called sea squirts ;) ), snails, grass, mangroves, more snails, blue crabs, stone crabs, spider crabs, clams (scientific name: Mercenaria mercenaria. How cool am I that I remember that? Lol... jk, it's the only one I know...), oysters, conchs, hermit crabs, lots of little fish, and I can't even think of what else right now. Basically, a plethora of goodies.

We played around in the marsh and beach, had more lectures, food, and then time to identify all those species before bed. We woke up early again to head out to the beach by 7 to catch the low tide goodies. I already listed some of the things we found up there, but we also found a brittle star, a common star fish, a file clam (first one below), a stargazer (second below, it sits at the bottom and "gazes" at the stars while waiting for food to swim by. Looks ugly but was a really cool find) and a snapping shrimp (third below). We watched the common star fish flip itself over in a small Tupperware container. They are very rigid to the touch, but are very flexible. Cool!

After lots more time identifying these organisms (after more lectures of course), we packed up, cleaned house, and waiting for the boat back to shore. We were sent off with several dolphins jumping and playing in our wake as we were leaving. What a pleasant parting gift. Can't wait to get to the Bahamas!!!

The lighthouse/dorms, up a very steep hill. Small, but cute!

Day 142: Snail Study

In preparation for the pre-Bahamas weekend trip that we're going on this weekend, we were instructed to read some scientific literature about sea grass, salt marshes, and snails. Needless to say, it was quite difficult to get in the mood to read all those big words. Did learn a lot about snails, though!

Other than that, laundry, and packing up for the weekend, nothing spectacular happened. I'm off to bed quite early tonight so I can get up at 5:40 for PRE BAHAMAS WEEKEND!!!! (If you don't know, I'm going to the Bahamas next week with my Tropical Marine Ecology class to do research. This weekend is a trial run a little closer to home.)

I won't have any internet service this weekend (or in the Bahamas), so I'll talk to you Sunday night! <3 Happy Weekend!

Day 141: Choking Hazard

Today was Jenny's birthday! We went to lunch at the A Cafe, which was a blast. I was laughing so hard the entire meal because we were having a great time. In this laughter, I started choking, in a friendly, laughing way. I couldn't shake the cough for the whole time we were there and into my next class. Good times though. Part of the reason we were laughing so hard is that we created a "Mr. Margarine" aka butter man figure thing out of the little butter flowers intended for the rolls. Raychel and Jenny had a blast and made him sound like Marcel the Shell (check out the video if you don't know who he is).

We also went to Mochi after CRU. I personally ate GIRL SCOUT COOKIES that I got at my Girl Scout meeting tonight. Yumm!!! I had Lemon Chalet Cremes; I also have Thin Mints. Such good cookies. Anyways, so we had a great time laughing more at Mochi.

Overall, today was lots of laughing (slash choking) and because of that I am thoroughly exhausted. Lots to do tomorrow, though!

Day 140: Cool Breeze

The last couple of days have been really HOT. For February. I did not appreciate it. Today was surprisingly cooler than the past few days. There was a gentle breeze most of the day that helped cool down the campus. Thank goodness.

Made pizza tonight with Danielle. We used a different kind of dough and determined we will be sticking with Publix dough for forever. Oh well. I finished a book today! I was reading Thrill Ride by Rachel Hawthorne. It's about a girl who goes away for the summer to work at an amusement park... see any resemblance to my life? Hehe. I may have gotten the idea from that... But anyways, I was reading it in my Bio2 class the last few days and now it's finished. Must find alternate source of amusement for Friday's class.

Off to bed now! After re-doing my blog design and adding a new poll, the website gave me difficulty saving it. All better now, but it was frustrating to think that my 30 minutes had been wasted. Have a Happy Thursday!

Day 139: Crazy Clumsy Craziness

Today was a weird day/morning for Hannah and I. I got a text waking me up at 9:45 to do a favor for a friend (not a problem, only 15 mins before I was getting up anyways). After the deed was done, I went to take a shower and realized the second I got out of the shower that I set my alarm an hour later than I was supposed to. Thus, I had 2 minutes to get dressed and grab my pencil and keys to race to get a bus to get to my test. Luckily, I got the bus just fine and ended up actually being early to class. Then I took the test, which was a piece of cake, and ended 20 minutes early, heading back home right after.

I walked in to the room to Hannah holding her head. Apparently while she was putting on her shoes, she forgot that her desk extra table thing that slides in and out of the desk was out. She hit her eyebrow region on the corner of the desk thing. Ouch! So I walk in to see her holding her head and saying "I think I just gave myself a black eye." Between the two of us, we were most definitely off kilter today. She recovered quite well, still a little sore, but no need to create an imaginary tale about her fighting someone over a cookie or anything.

After these misfortunes were described to each other, we went to brunch together at the dining hall. Yay omelets with the roomie! Other than that, classes, some studying and watching Bones, nothing really exciting happened today. Although the last episode of Bones I watched mentioned my school, was about the environment/sustainability, and one of the characters played with a toy dinosaur (dinosaurs are my favorite animal!). Obviously a very awesome episode!

Day 138: Language Skills

In studying for my Aztec Civilization class, I had to learn at least 60 Nahuatl words. Nahuatl is the language that they spoke. Anyways, I know lots of words about jobs, houses, agriculture, and social classes. Hannah helped me memorize them. It felt like us studying for her Spanish class last semester!!

My Big, Jenny, delivered my birthday present today! It consisted of a beautiful pink and orange floral scarf, bubble blowing key chains, and a beautiful frame with my favorite picture of us in it! When we went to the museum two months ago, we took this cool picture in a dugout canoe (acalli in Nahuatl!). She put that picture in a hand painted frame that is just gorgeous! So to a fantastic Big with a fantastic brain, and loving heart, I say thank you!!!!

Other exciting thing of the day is that I ate Melvin the Moose (see yesterday's post if you are confused). He was mighty delicious! A chocolate frosting covered Twinkie on top of a cupcake is a genius idea!

Aztec Civ. test in the morning! Wahoo!!!

Day 137: Moose Madness

Today consisted of Bones, Publix, studying, delicious dinner, and a herd of moose (mooses, meese, moosies). For dinner we had crab stuffed mushrooms (among other sides). They were sooooo yummy! Applause to the fabulous Paula Deen for the recipe. For Christmas, my cousins gave me What's New Cupcake, a cupcake decorating book. For my birthday they sent me all the things I needed to make Moose Cupcakes. So after dinner, Danielle and I attacked the instructions. It took forever!!! But totally worth it. They are SO CUTE! First, look at a picture of them.

The head part is part of a Twinkie. The Twinkie is not very balance-able. So the instructions call for you to attach the Twinkie with frosting and then freeze it in place. As you know, dorm room mini-fridges don't have a lot of room for moose heads, so we had to get creative. We transported the herd downstairs to the ice machine where we made a flat bed of ice and let the herd rest for a bit. For future reference, that doesn't really work. The cookie sheet got cold, but not the meese. Anyways. Next step was to "dip" the mooses in melted frosting for a coating. Well... dipping is really hard to do in a container that isn't deep enough to hold the cupcake while the Twinkie is slipping off the cupcake due to the freezing failure. So I ended up dripping the melted frosting on top and Danielle finger painted the frosting to make it look even. After 30 minutes waiting for the herd to dry, I finished decorating them with Tootsie Roll ears, melting chocolate antlers, and m&ms for eyes and nose. The finished moosies are so adorable!

Mine is named Melvin, Danielle's Blob, and Raychel's Charlie the Chocolate Moose. I also named all the rest (besides Danielle's roommates since he was taken into custody before he could be named). I haven't tried to eat Melvin yet because I naturally had my fill of the ingredients before they were all assembled, but hopefully tomorrow we can discover what mooses taste like.

Also, I'd like to address the fact that the only correct form of the word moose is moose. Not mooses or meese or moosies. For future reference. Although.... Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen understand me!

Day 136: Family Dinner

In celebration for my birthday, my parents came up to take my brother and I out to dinner at BJ's. It was delicious! Both my brother and I got pork chops. So yum, plus I have left overs for tomorrow! Yay! Plus a Pizookie for my birthday. (Pizookie = pizza cookie, essentially a deep dish cookie resembling a pizza, topped with ice cream)

Besides the great dinner and hanging with the family for a little bit, nothing too exciting for today. however, I am writing this at almost 3 am, and therefore need to get to bed. Right now. Sorry for the short post, more another day.

Day 135: Divine Dessert

I have to say, tonight Danielle made the best dessert she ever has. A delicious peach cobbler! I just peeled and sliced the peaches, she did the rest. We decided to also get some vanilla bean Häagen-Dazs ice cream (just the small one so it didn't get wasted since we don't have freezer space). I'm telling you. This dessert was soooo divine. Paula Deen's recipe, so I guess it should be expected. I am SO excited to eat the left overs of it! :)

I watched quite a bit of Bones today and then finished up the night chilling at home with my girl Princess Tiana! I love the Princess and the Frog so much, and figured we needed some bonding time. If she was real, Tia and I would be the best of friends.

Lots of people gone for the weekend, so very low key, study filled weekend ahead. Plus a parental visit! :)

Happy Weekend! Be safe!

Day 134: BIRTHDAY!!!

So for anyone actually keeping up daily, sorry this is a little late. I think today was the busiest day I've had in a while, but definitely one of the best!

Started out with class... Aztec Civilization. My teacher was out of town, leaving the TA to show us a movie. A 50 minute movie in a 2 hour time slot. After the movie, we had the option to write a short extra credit essay and then we could leave. So I got out of my class almost an hour early! I sat in the student union and watched an episode of Bones before heading to our favorite A Cafe for lunch. The A Cafe was super busy! Delicious food, and the best company, including: Hannah, Jenny, Brooklyn and Alyssa, and then the amazing staff at A Cafe that we have befriended. The girls sang Happy Birthday to me and several other tables joined in. Good times! (Alyssa has the picture on her camera, so no pic yet)

After lunch, went to more class. Went home. Was stopped by my Phi Lamb sister and good friend, Elizabeth, who delivered her hand made chocolate covered strawberries!!! THEY ARE SO GOOD! I also picked up a package and my mail. The package I got was a poster with lots of notes from my youth group friends back home that my mom commissioned and put together for me! It is so cute and I love it. Going on my wall this weekend. Somewhere.

Then went off to more class, dinner at Panda Express with Ana, as per normal Thursdays, and then embarked on our journey to CRU. CRU was great. The last song that we sang was You Deserve aka the song that was stuck in my head from the moment I woke up today. So I was really happy to hear it!

After CRU, we all headed to Mochi where the girls sang again and then more people walked in and sang again. I think I've had my dose of birthday singing for the year. Thank you everyone!!

After CRU, Jenny and I had our one hour time slot for CRU's 3 weeks of 24 hour prayer. We got to pray for a very quick passing hour in a beautiful prayer room! Then we returned home for some sleep. And this is why I was too tired to write this blog when I got home.

Thank you to everyone for making my birthday so special!! I love you all and had a fantastic birthday that I won't forget!

Day 133: Special Surprise!!!

After my one class of the day, I retreated back to my room for an afternoon of catching up on TV shows. It was so much fun to relax and enjoy them! I watched at least 4 shows plus 2? episodes of Bones. Good day.

(Today is the day before my birthday for clarification for the following story.)

Tonight, I went to community group while Hannah and Brooklyn (roomie and neighbor, respectively) stayed home to "do work". When I got back, I fiddled with the doorknob, decided to go to the bathroom while I was out, and then came back to the door again. Little did I know, Brooklyn and Hannah were hiding out in the room waiting for me to come back so they could surprise me. With all the lights off, I entered the room, ran in to a bunch of streamers, and then turned the lights on. My closet curtain/door was closed so I checked behind it, not even thinking to check behind Hannah's since hers is often closed. I was closing the door to the hallway, which had gotten stuck on some streamers, when Hannah and Brooklyn jumped out of her closet and scared the living daylights out of me. The girls had been crouched in the hot, small closet for the whole time I was in the bathroom, and had been in the room for almost an hour "practicing" how to surprise me. How cute and awesome are they?? They also got me cupcakes, balloons, put wrapping paper and streamers all over the room, and got little Princess Tiana (my favorite) stamps to top the cupcakes.

What troopers these girls are. They had intended to go to the specialty cupcake store to get real cupcakes, but of course today they had emergency plumbing problems and were closed. Then while they were in line at the store, fishing for their change, the man behind them heaved a huge *sigh* of frustration at their slowness. Then he tried to cover it up by saying he was "sick" and faked a cough. Nice going, buddy. These girls are just the most fantastic friends I could ever ask for!!

I have a really busy day tomorrow, so I need to get to sleep. Hope you have a great Feb 17th! aka My Birthday!! :)

Day 132: Typical Tuesday

Nothing really special happened today. Found out that next Thursday one of my two hour blocks of class is canceled! Yay! Other than that, got more information on the weekend trip to Seahorse Key with the Bahamas class that will be happening next weekend, so that's exciting.

AND. Big news for the day:
I started watching the TV show Bones. It's about a Forensic Anthropologist who works with the FBI to solve cases. It fits perfectly with my Forensic Anthropology class that I'm taking! I was able to follow along with some of the facts she discovered about the bones just from the information I've gotten in class. Pretty cool stuff! Although I've found quite a bit of things that have definitely been TV-icised. Still a really great show. I'm now over 5 episodes in and fully committed to the entire series (thus far) viewing, much like The Nanny, Scrubs, Boy Meets World, and Dawson's Creek. And hopefully I'll learn a lot in the process!

Off to bed here! Goodnight!!

Day 131: Valentine's Day Victories

Happy Valentine's Day!!

I hope you had as splendid of a day as I did! So many great things happened today. I will go mostly in chronological order, saving the best for last even though it didn't occur like that.
  • Fell asleep during Boring Plants 101
  • Lunch "lady date" with sister and CG member, Skylar, at the A Cafe
  • Opened packages from Mom and Grace (candy and amazingly cute pins and accessories, respectfully)
  • Received the box of tissues I sent myself for free from kleenex.com. DO IT. Really cute super tiny box covered in polka dots!
  • Skyped with my BFF, Nick, who is studying in Austria this semester
  • Found out that our hallmate, Kayce, and her roomie will be living on our floor again next year! This means that We know everyone on our floor! (all 8 of us!) Party every night, for sure.
  • Watched Vampire Diaries and the final song was by Matthew West!! Here it is, I really enjoyed it and never heard it!! Family Tree - Matthew West
  • Had a great Phi Lamb devotion tonight about putting God as our First Love and priority in life
  • My amazing sister, Sam, baked me a Coca Cola Cake for my birthday!!! It is SO good!
  • Ate said cake
  • Hung out with two of my favorite people: Pocahontas and John Smith (aka watched Pocahontas)
And here's the final cap for why today was so amazing:

I got a job at Cedar Point (amusement park) for the summer!
I will be a prep cook at a restaurant there. I'll live in dorms on site, get to go to the park for free, and will have an overall amazing experience. I had such a great phone interview and I'm so excited to start! I'll leave around May 1st to get there and won't get back home until the second week of August or so, so it's the WHOLE summer, which I think will be fantastic!

I hope you had an amazing day and felt loved throughout the entire day. Remember, you do not need a significant other to make you complete. That is what God is for. We are his BRIDE, he is our BRIDESGROOM. He is the best thing that ever was or is or is to come. He alone can satisfy your life and make you feel complete. Please remember that and pass it on. I guarantee there is someone in your life that desperately needs to hear it. Please please don't hesitate to contact me if you need to talk at all, ever.

Happy Valentine's Day, my loves!
Here are some other songs that you might enjoy on this Love filled day.
The Face of Love - Sanctus Real
Beloved - Tenth Avenue North

Day 130: Chalk Full of Love

We left Savannah this morning around 10:30, stopped once to fill up gas, and arrived back home by 2. Not too much traffic! We stocked up on Publix necessities and unloaded everything to our rooms. I received two packages today (well yesterday, but picked them up today). One is a Valentine's Day gift from my best friend, Grace, that I can't open until tomorrow (but it's after midnight so I might soon...) and the other was the most fantastic Birthday Package ever received. My loving cousins, Leann and Jamie, got me a really cool cupcake decorating book for Christmas. They sent in the package today all the fixings needed to make Moose Cupcakes! I am so excited to make them, just have to find some time to do it! Hopefully this weekend. Be on the lookout for meese on the blog!

My big, Jenny, was "chalking" for Valentine's Day with CRU. "Chalking" is basically writing on the sidewalks with chalk. We wrote encouraging bible verses and messages so that everyone will know that they are loved this Valentine's Day, significant other or not. I really hate the feeling of chalk, so I only did one message before I couldn't handle it any more. Here it is!

We're excited to watch people read them tomorrow! Hopefully it will make a difference in some people's lives.

After chalking, I redid my nails and watch one of my favorite movies, The Parent Trap (with Lindsay Lohan). I love this movie because I can quote the entire thing. I had a great time just sitting by myself with Dennis Quaid and Natasha Richardson. Good stuff right there!

Now it is time for bed! Early plant class tomorrow, followed by lots of stuff to do on this Valentine's Day! I already used most of my pink/red clothing... WHAT DO I WEAR!?

Saturday, February 12, 2011

Day 129: Paula Deen Day!

Wow.

The end.

Just kidding, but really, this day was just fantastic! I'm beyond exhausted now. I've been sitting on the hotel bed for over an hour already and I'm surprised I haven't fallen asleep yet...

Soundtrack for the day: Chicken Fried, Zac Brown Band. Listen to it as you read.

Started the day with the Paula Deen Tour! We got a red Paula Deen Tour lunchbox (which we're using to take leftovers home in). We bought some chocolate covered peanuts and cashews. We went to Bethesda, which used to be a boys' orphanage but is now just a boys' behavior school thing. Paula got married the second time here and it is her biggest charity. We then went to lunch at Uncle Bubba's Oyster House. The meal there was DELICIOUS! We had the buffet which was all kinds of yummy. Low country broil, red rice, pulled pork, fried fish, corn bread, grilled parmesan oysters and, my favorite, banana pudding!

After the stuffing lunch, we returned to downtown Savannah and Danielle and I headed to Forsyth Park. It was here that I watched my first ever Rugby match. Crazy!

We walked around a little more, went to the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, a cute book store, a paperie, a cupcake store, and the Andrew Low and Juliette Gordon Low houses. Afterward, we found a new parking spot (I pulled into several parallel parking spots all by myself today! Without any trouble!) and walked to City Market, which has a bunch of restaurants and galleries and more pralines. Today we got two samples of chocolate pralines. YUMM! We also stopped at a Mochi-look-a-like Frozen yogurt store called La' Berry. Yummy! (Had banana flavored yogurt with 'Nilla wafers! mmm)

Most stores started closing between 6 and 7, so we went to Paula Deen's store and loaded up on goodies and then took them back to the car. Goodies include: an apron and a purple knife for Danielle, a pen, some postcards and a Paula Deen green tupperware container that has a built in ice pack in the lid for me. Woo! Our dinner reservations weren't until 9:30, so we "chilled" out by some live music for a while, in a modern park, and then back for more music until we finally were able to sit down to dinner.

Dinner. A feast. I got a Chicken Pot Pie and Danielle got Shrimp & Grits. They were both delicious! It was the best pot pie I've ever had. The crust was a flaky puff pastry lattice on top of the soupy stuff. And there was fried chicken in the soupy stuff! Fantastic.

I can't even begin to tell you the amount of fun I had today. It was a lot! But I have a killer headache and I'm about to fall asleep on you, so off to bed I go! Leaving around 10 in the morning. See you back home tomorrow!

Day 128: HERE!

Welcome to Savannah, Georgia!

After about a 4 hour journey, Danielle and I arrived safely in Savannah! We attempted to go to the visitor's center first, but I guess that the address I had was wrong, so it took us quite a while to find the real place. Anyways. We checked in at the hotel, went back to downtown for dinner, and then walked around. Dinner was at the Crystal Beer Parlor. Yummy Yummy food! I had a lamb burger and Danielle had a fried oyster sandwich. Both were delicious. I'm still stuffed. Afterward, we decided to walk off the food on the riverside. Not too much was open, except for the candy stores! We got to sample two different store's pralines. I liked the first ones, Danielle the second. Guess we'll have to see if we get any later... We have tomorrow all planned out, starting with the tour at 10, leaving here around 9:15. So we have to get to bed now! Oh, one thing I forgot. Parking here stinks. I had to parallel park. Where we're from, they don't teach you how to parallel park because there isn't really any parallel parking anywhere. So it took me about 23 tries (no kidding) with Danielle's curbside help. Hopefully we can stay parked in a parking lot tomorrow...

Goodnight! Enjoy tonight's pictures.

Dinner!

Danielle and I chilling in the hotel room!

Day 127: So. Close.

12 hours until we leave for PDW! (Paula Deen Weekend) AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Today was filled with classes, typical of Thursdays. But I really enjoyed the topic in Aztec Civilization today! We learned a little about their poetry, philosophy, and games. The poetry was quite beautiful (in English). These are my two favorites - Enjoy!

Let us consider things as lent to us, oh, friends;
only in passing are we here on earth;
tomorrow or the day after,
as Your heart desires, oh, Giver of Life,
we shall go, my friends, to His home.

Truly do we live on earth?
Not forever on earth; only a little while here.
Although it be jade, it will be broken,
Although it be gold, it is crushed,
Although it be quetzal feather, it is torn asunder.
Not forever on earth; only a little while here.

Seriously, how beautiful are those? The Aztecs were one smart crowd, lemme tell ya! I love learning about them! My Forensic Anthropology class got let out early tonight, yay! And I took a 10 minute power nap in the break during my General Anthropology class. Surprisingly helped quite a bit. It's good having 4 classes that overlap with each other, but not when I learn the same things at least twice in one week and have to pay attention in both classes. Easy studying, I guess...

CRU was tonight, and was great. Had dinner at Panda Express as usual for Thursdays and received this fortune that I shared with Ana: "You will be fortunate in the opportunities presented to you." How cool? Haha, I don't know, just liked it.

My Big Sister, Jenny, has been accepted to go on a missions trip to Paris this summer with CRU! I am so proud of her and so excited to see what amazing things God has in store for her this summer! (Plus MY BEST FRIEND WILL BE IN PARIS. HOW AMAZING.)

Praise God for this amazing and beautiful day (even if it was a bit chilly!)

Tune in tomorrow for a broadcast from the gates of Savannah! (Not literally the gates because I don't think they really have any, but we'll see.)

Day 126: The End of the Stress

Not that I've been stressing all that much, but all of my work and tests and assignments are finished for a while which is so exciting! After a cold walk to lab and a warmer walk to class, I was greeted in Bio2 by our new teacher. The teachers split up the subjects so they can just teach their specialties. Entering in to the season of Plants (ugh/boring/ew), I already didn't have high hopes for the next 5 weeks. But to make matters, dare I say, worse, our teacher is not the most proficient English speaker. She does better than others I have encountered, but she takes a long time to say what she wants to say. I feel like a manatee or snail or sloth is talking. So the slow lecture + hard to understand + me thinking about those two things plus her bad grammar + boring subject of plants = me falling asleep. I will be needing a method of staying awake, I feel. Anyways. That's about it on that front. I will not complain about it again. Maybe just a little...

Tonight during dinner, I got a phone call from the number 000-012-3456. In case you aren't used to telephone numbers, that's not normal. Therefore, I didn't answer for fear of a scam on the other side. And lo-and-behold, the number was legit! It was Cedar Point calling to set up a phone interview! So I ended up e-mailing them back and alerted them that their number freaked me out. He replied apologizing because all the phone lines were busy, so he had to use Skype. I still think Skype shouldn't be that sketchy in their phone numbers, because who in their right mind would answer 000-012-3456 unless they knew about this already. Dumb. Anyways, I have a phone interview for Monday afternoon! Hopefully it goes well. It feels great just to be considered, rather than immediately shut down. Thank you, Lord, for this fantastic opportunity!!!

After a great community group tonight, Hannah and I did a little cleaning of the room and I packed for the weekend trip to Savannah! I surprisingly don't have a whole lot. So I'm wondering what else I could possibly need that I am forgetting. Luckily I have until Friday morning to figure it out. I'm really hungry right now, partially because dinner was 6 hours ago, partially because I am salivating over the thought of the delicious food we will be encountering in about 40 hours. AHHHH. The weather forecast for the weekend predicts sunshine and cool weather all weekend (yay) and a "sunny and pleasant day" on Sunday!! What a cute description.

Goodnight, my friends. I must say, I wish you wrote back more often. But I'll taken what I can get. <3

Tuesday, February 8, 2011

Day 125: Doing the Bone Dance

I successfully memorized all the bones I needed to know for my Forensic Anthropology exam! I feel so accomplished! Anyways. That was the easiest exam I've ever taken (especially in college). I was finished in 20 minutes, which meant we could start dinner earlier than anticipated! We made shepherd's pie. Yumm. It looked disgusting, so I didn't take a picture, but it tasted delicious! Other than that, I was really tired today. But I'm not right now... which isn't that great because I need to get to bed ASAP since tomorrow is an early morning.

I watched Anastasia tonight after finishing my homework. I love that movie so much. Wish she was a Disney princess so she could be my second favorite! (Favorite it Princess Tiana in case you don't know me very well) And during Anastasia, I redid my nails for the next week. They didn't come out exactly as I wanted, so I'll probably redo them just after Valentine's day. I love hearts.

If I can learn to do it, you can learn to do it. I don't know how I knew it, I simply knew it, Suddenly I feel like someone new, You can learn to do it, too!

Day 124: Monsoon Season

I've never actually had an umbrella invert the way you see in movies, but it happened to me three times today! It poured, and was extremely windy all day, plus cold! So after my Bio2 test, I scurried back to the warmth of my dorm room. (Speaking of warm and cozy, I just fell asleep at the computer/notebook while studying. Woke up to Hannah standing over me. Definitely ready for bed now...)

Tonight there was a bake sale after Phi Lamb to benefit the girls that are going on a missions trip to Atlanta over Spring Break. Yummy cupcakes and brownies! After our delicious dinner of hot dogs wrapped inside crescent rolls. MMmmm.

Must get to bed now before I fall asleep again. Until tomorrow!

OOOH Just found a new button on my laptop!!! HOORAY! (Brings up my Outlook/e-mail!)

Day 123: Superbowl Sunday

Go Packers!!
Not that I'm a huge sports fan, but we were rooting for Green Bay to win, so that was exciting! I went to church this morning - got to see a beautiful baby girl get baptized! Then went to lunch with a friend from back home. Then the infamous Sunday Publix Run. Then (lots of then's today) volunteered with Phi Lamb at the local homeless shelter to serve them dinner.

Then returned back to make our own dinner. Dinner tonight was stupendous - Grilled Cheese Burgers with Parmesan Tomatoes. YUM-E.

And then I studied in the lounge of Danielle's floor for a while because ours smelled like burnt popcorn (ew). And then came back downstairs and studied some more. First Bio2 exam tomorrow morning! Eek!! But this feels like the 4th time I'm learning the material, so hopefully it won't be too bad. I'll let you know tomorrow!

Time for bed now. It's 1 AM and we have lots of stuff going on tomorrow!! Hope you had a great day!

Day 122: Hi Mom, I'm on TV!

This morning, our school was featured on ESPN's College Gameday. The first 500 students to the basketball arena got free breakfast and a chance to be on TV. Danielle and I went, cheered for 2 and a half hours, and then I was mentally fried. It was really cool to see, but quite tiring. I could never be a cheerleader. Plus, we were told that if we held up signs promoting an insurance company that I will not advertise here, they would pay us $20. But no money was given. So I'm a little grumpy about that (not to mention sore arms). I watched the footage just now, and found a clip that I was in, but all you see is MY SIGN. Because I was being a good advertiser. Oh well! It was definitely an experience to be had! (A fun one)

We are just below the asterisk (orange shirt is Danielle)

I retreated back for a nap, some studying, and then a delicious quiche dinner with Danielle. Yumm! Top 5 favorite dishes we've made on campus! And we have leftovers! Yay! While we were waiting for the quiche to bake, and then after dinner, I helped Danielle make Valentine's Day cards for people in the hospital. It was a blast! But my dinner hour turned into a 4 hour arts and crafts session! Crazy! Needless to say, today was not too productive in the studying department...

Got to get on that for tomorrow :/

Day 121: Different Food Galore

I had Hare Krishna for lunch for the first time today. It's "karma free" food. It usually looks a little risky, but I had to try it for myself. And it was DELICIOUS! It was a red bean chili with rice, something close to mashed potatoes, and this delicious pumpkin pie flavored dessert stuff. I'm going to try it again next Thursday, so be ready for an update of a different meal.

Tonight I went to Mi Apa Latin Cafe with my Big, Jenny. Boy was that scrumptious as well!! Yummm! So I definitely want to go back. And eat more. Yummmm. Again. That's how good it was.

And finally, our Community Group had a "Pre-Love Life Potluck, Fort Building, Slumber Party Madness" Party. LoveLife is an all day conference happening tomorrow, and while I am not going to it, I wanted in on the party. And I don't think anyone actually slept over, but it was definitely fun. At this potluck, we had some amazing food. My favorite two eats had to be the baked brie, YUM (I love cheese) and the Chocolate Chip Oreo cookies. These were homemade chocolate chip cookies with a surprise Oreo stuck inside. Talk about ingenious. Seriously, this has made the list of the top 10 best things on the planet. Well, it should anyway. Wish you could have had some! Thank you to Skylar for making the delicious beasts!

I ordered myself a pre-birthday gift of the new Hawk Nelson CD that will be released on Tuesday (because I of course really want it seeing as how they're my favorite Christian band and all...). It's called Crazy Love and I am super excited to learn every word to every song! Therefore I am excited for Tuesday afternoon when it will arrive in the mail room. Hooray!!! Thank you Amazon.com for supplying me with all the goodies I could ever want.

Day 120: Melancholy Mist

Although I had a great day, there was a bit of a sad tone to it. Nothing bad happened, but I finished Dawson's Creek today. No more episodes to watch! To make it worse, there was a surprising death in the last episode and it made me super sad. I have truly enjoyed all of the love that the cast has shared with me over the last two months. They are my best friends and I am sad to see them go (except the pranks that Dawson plays on people. That can go.)

Anyways. I got out of my Forensics class over an hour early, so got to finish Dawson's in that time. And then I had a fabulous dinner courtesy of Panda Express with my friend Ana. We relived some middle school moments and decided we want a major that encompasses everything we learned in our Gifted classes. They were really fun problem solving classes, enriched with cultures and history, technology and mechanical engineering stuffs, mythology and poetry. It was the most diverse set of topics ever presented, but it was all creative and fun. What happened to that joy of learning? I can tell you I don't get that rush from anything anymore. So please, develop that curriculum into a brilliant major so I will know what to do. Thanks.

And of course, Thursday is our marvelous CRU night! Some amazing music was played, including two Switchfoot (my favorite!!!) songs sung by an amazing vocalist who sounds just like Switchfoot, so that was beyond awesome. I think I should share my favorite of the songs tonight, just happening to be from the lead singer of Switchfoot, Jon Foreman. It's called "Your Love is Strong" and is just a fantastic song, especially one to start off prayer with. Enjoy!

(And explaining the title, it was misty out all day. Was supposed to rain, but I was never outside when it did. So just misted. The end.)

Day 119: Lab, Laughter, and Library

This morning's Bio2 lab was so much fun! We were studying reflexes in the senses. So basically we played several games/exercises revolving around the eyes, ears, and that random reflex under your knee cap that doctors always test for but has no actual purpose (that's true). My lab partner, Devin, and I enjoyed our fun lab time. :) Much better than Chem lab!

After classes and a few errands I had to run, my Big, Jenny, came to the room to chill for an hour before a meeting. So we just hung out in the room, watched random SNL skits, and enjoyed each others' company. It was so great to realize how comfortable we are with each other and to just be able to talk non stop for an hour. I love her!

My Aztec Civilization class has a project due in the morning. For extra credit, we could go look at a book that was on reserve in the library to help with the project. Of course when I went this afternoon, someone else was reading it. So I had to miss my amazing community group (bible study) to go back after a meeting tonight.

OH YEAH! Danielle and I made Chicken and Dumplings (again) while watching Paula Deen make Chicken Pie. We have a new recipe to try. And in 8 days, we shall actually be eating her food! Woohoo!!!

Long Thursday ahead, so I better head off to bed.

I only have two more episodes of Dawson's Creek to watch. :(
Also, there's a thunderstorm happening outside! I LOVE THUNDERSTORMS (at night, when I am safely inside). They are just so... powerful. When Hannah heard the first boom of thunder, she said "OH! It's bowling night in heaven!" Can't wait to go bowling with Jesus!

Day 118: Heart Explosion

As you know, today is the first day of February!!! Also known as one of the best months of the year. It may be short, but it is packed full of lots of fun and opportunities! Paula Deen Weekend, Birthday!, Big's Birthday, weekend away with the Bahamas class, several tests and projects in between.

To celebrate this amazing month ahead, I started the heart fest. Seeing as February is typically known for Valentine's Day, hearts are in order to decorate with. I started with the white board, of course! I also have been making heart shaped ornaments for the past couple of days. I bought them over Christmas and decided now was the time to put them up. To do this, I had to temporarily take down a poster, but it may return later. Hope you enjoy the changes! I certainly did! Plus my toes and fingers are pink, red and heart-y. Many more heart designs to come this month because I LOVE hearts on my nails!

All in all, HAPPY FEBRUARY! Let the amazing month begin!

(Bonus, Obidiah the gator was out again today. Refer to yesterday if you missed that excitement.)
