Day 203: Attack of the Sidewalk

So about 2 minutes after I posted my last blog, I was viciously attacked by the sidewalk. If you remember, it was raining and almost 10pm (so... dark). I was trying to get from the back of the building to the sidewalk to go back to my room and there was a) a huge hole in the ground (that I found when I went back 3 days later) and b) a 5 inch gap between the grass and the sidewalk (not including the hole). So of course, I tripped in the darkness. And as a result, both of my hands, my cheek, chin, and knee were torn up. To to mention my mood. My phone and computer survived the fall surprisingly!! Two very nice girls walked me to the bathroom, bought me bandaids, got me patched up enough to get back to the room. The next morning I went to first aid and then to work. But work sent me home to rest up since I couldn't stand on my knee or hold anything in my hands. Finally a week later and I feel much better. My face is still all scratched up and looks really weird. I'd put a picture, but it's not Halloween yet. I could feel the young children staring when I was eating at Dairy Queen yesterday... Rude.

That was the big news for the week. A coworker had to return home, so I'm back to being lonely at work with too much to do. Today was my second day in a row of 9hr shift with no breaks or food. So... as you can guess I'm exhausted. And had to report to McDonald's for wifi. I'm going to get a quick snack and then get to bed. until 7am when I have to be up to work a hopefully NOT 9 hr shift...

I got my second paycheck though! Which was pretty great. Except that there are no Wells Fargo banks in Ohio...

Goodnight. Happy Memorial Day Weekend. Second busiest weekend of the year, so we are definitely keeping busy. Enjoy your day off if you get one. I'll be making potato salad, coleslaw, ribs and wings.

OH! I only have 1 coaster left to ride!!!!! :)

Day 202: A Day Off!

Thursday was my day off. I know it's not Thursday anymore, but internet issues... you know. It was an AWESOME day off!!! I slept in a little bit, got to the bus stop and waited for 20 minutes for the bus to the park. While I was there, I met two people headed to the park for a thrilling day. We joined forces (one of them is an experienced Cedar Point visitor, so he guided us to the best rides) and began our epic day. We had so much fun! The weather finally cleared up and warmed up, with just a little sprinkle bad enough to force our hoods to go up. We went on 11 coasters and several rides all in less than 8 hours. Coasters were (so you can keep track with me): Iron Dragon, Mantis, Millennium Force (best so far) (taller than the Statue of Liberty!!!!), Maverick, Magnum XL200, Mean Streak, Blue Streak, Wicked Twister, Raptor, Woodstock Express, and the Cedar Creek Mine Ride. Still left to go: Top Thrill Dragster, Disaster Transport, Gemini, Jr. Gemini, Corkscrew, and Wildcat. A collective favorite ride was Skyhawk, which was just amazing (but not a coaster).

After the park was closed, we went out to dinner at Friendly's. Then we ran by Walmart. Yay for friends with cars! All my new friends work at Games, so I have people to visit in the park whenever I walk around! The lines today and yesterday for rides were insane. I think that Thursday was the perfect day to have off and the park will probably never be that perfect again. Oh well!

It's raining on my computer and I have pictures to upload on Facebook, so Gotta Go!

Here's a pic of the crew sitting with Snoopy and Woodstock towards the end of our day.

Day 201: Time's Up

My computer's literally like 2 mins away from dying. No joke.

It's cold and rainy here.
Haven't gotten to go on any rides because of that.
My hands are still shivering and I've been at McDonald's for 2 hours.
Got hot chocolate today though!
Not a lot going on at work because of the slow business due to line number 2.
Day off is Thursday, should be sunnier and warmer by then. I hope.
I got a pin and was named head of prep for that Friday's location. Yay!! I'd put a pic up, but my computer will die before then. It's a cute little chef hat pin that goes on my hat.

Think that's it for the 30 seconds I have left.

Oh, got to ride the train. That's it. (you can ride that in uniform)

COME VISIT ME PLEASE.

Day 200: Ride On!

These last three days have been so exhilarating!! Lots of learning and cooking going on at work. Today my trainer gave me my own set of measuring spoons since they have been elusive around the kitchen lately. I also got off work early because I was finished with prep. What a great feeling! But I was the ONLY person not a supervisor in the kitchen. Tonight was opening night, so everyone else was working 4-close. Glad I got an earlier shift. Tomorrow starts my couple days of long hours.

Tuesday, my mom sent me a package full of snacks and such. Yay! And yesterday, I got my first pair of TOMS! I love them so much. The "ash gray" sometimes looks brown in different light. It's interesting. I've already gotten to share about TOMS with three people since I've gotten them. Yay spreading the word! The heels are a little loose, hopefully they won't stretch too much. Might have to get a different size next time. (Yes, next time. I will definitely be getting another pair...)

Last night was the Pep Rally for opening day at the park. It was fun, with lots of yelling. I am SO excited to see Snoopy tomorrow! And all the people running around the park. So much fun to be had this summer is about to start! YAY! I think that's all I needed to say. It's almost time for bed so I can be on the bus at 7:15. Ew.

So as the CP Staff welcomed us to the park, I welcome you to the summer of my life.

Day 199: Full Time Cook... and Eater

Woo!! These last two days have been actual cooking days! I can't even tell you all that I've made or helped make. It's a lot of work, but the corporate trainers from TGI Friday's are SO nice! My favorite part about training is that we get to eat the food that is made. And boy is it yummy. Plus we get to see everything that we made as it is actually served. Today I had delicious grilled chicken and shrimp with mashed potatoes and the onion and pepper medley that I made yesterday. Hehehhe!!! I loved getting to see the food I made. And taste it...

After work yesterday, the power was out in the dorms. Marra and I watched The Little Princess on DVD on her laptop with extreme battery power. Today, our roommate Janelle switched into a room down the hall, Marra moved down the bunk to Janelle's bed, and less than 10 minutes later we had two brand new roommates. Haven't gotten to talk to them, except to find out that they will be working the graveyard shift from 11pm-7am, so while we are awake, they will be sleeping. That will be weird to get used to at first. Marra and I are hopefully moving to the on campus dorm when it opens though, so we won't have to wake up so early for the bus since we can walk to work. Here's hoping!

Marra and I walked down to the good 'ol Mickey D's for the elusive WiFi. Which is being stubborn here because there are so many people trying to use it. It's so beyond slow, but at least it is available! Computer is of course going to die soon, so back to playing on Facebook for a little before heading home. Goodnight!

Woops forgot to tell you the adventure that Marra and I had at McDonald's. Three little boys had run around outside by the pond/lake we're sitting by. Like 10 minutes later, two of the boys ran by (really fast). We freaked out about the third boy because we couldn't see him, so we ran out the door trying to find him in case he drowned or something. He was really slow behind his friends, but was okay. Marra and I basically had heart attacks. This is why young boys should always have parental supervision when they roam around steep banks near roads and strangers...

Day 198: 3 Days Off

Today was my third day off in a row. I've just been watching TV in the room. I did laundry today and made the trek to McDonald's for WiFi. It's not working outside the dorms anymore... no idea why! A LOT more people checked in this weekend, so it's slowly getting busier in the dorms.

So that's pretty much all that's been going on the last three days...

Today is Mother's Day! Happy Mother's Day to all you moms out there. I know that my mom is extremely appreciated for everything she does. Love you Mom!!

Back to finishing up the episode of House I managed to get while I was here. Until the next McDonald's run... toodles!

Day 197: First Day of Work

I've completed my first day of work! The bus got full before I was able to get on, so I was almost late for work. I guess I will be getting up extra early just to get there on time.

We made potato salad (got mustard all over me) as part of training, but then had to change mindsets and clean the whole kitchen and everything in it. They fed us lunch and we got out an hour early though, so that was great!!! On the bus ride back, I got to watch little goslings play on the side of the road!

Tonight my roommate, Lamarra, and I took our microwavable dinners downstairs and ate them outside where we can get WiFi near the housing area. Computer is going to die soon, of course, since I spent the whole time .... BUYING MY FIRST PAIR OF TOMS!!! The really great shoes where one pair is donated to a child in need every time one pair is purchased. Super excited to get them soon!! On a sadder note, the WiFi here blocks the website(s) I use to watch House. So I guess when I want to watch that, I will be going to McDonald's for two hours. And then back to the room to charge the computer for a bit.

As I am writing this, two boys are randomly singing outside. They are really good, but it was really random. Lamarra and I are laughing at them. But alas, it is time to sleep. Goodnight! (Our hands our freezing! Hard to type!!)

Day 196: Training

Today was general training. We learned about park policies, housing rules, the mission statement for the park, and got to take a park tour so we can help guests around. It was actually kind of fun, and I'm glad that I got to see the whole park ahead of time. It's huge!!! Took us an hour to get all the way around the park. Granted, there is still construction and stuff happening, so we had to take the long way around some spots.

I got back from the long training day (and wait in wardrobe) and found that I had a new roommate! And five minutes later, another one walked in! So now the room is filled with people and stuff (can't imagine a fourth roommate... oh boy). Janelle (roomie #1) and I wanted to eat and get on the computer, so we walked over to McDonald's a few blocks away to get wifi. We're supposed to have it in the dorms, but I guess they won't be putting it in (and then only down the hall) until after they get everything started with the park. So until then... Don't know what we'll be doing for internet. McDonald's doesn't have any power outlets, so I'm limited to until my computer dies. Then hopefully I can try to the employee rec area. Haven't been there yet, so don't know if it will work.

Early blog then, as you can see. I will of course still try to blog every day, but might not be able to when the real season starts up in a few weeks. Goodbye bloggers!

Day 195: Cedar Point

Today we finally arrived at Cedar Point! The town Sandusky is really small. It took forever for us to see a sign for Cedar Point. Guess it's just so well known around here that you don't need to advertise. We got to Human Resources and began the long process of "processing in". After an hour and a half waiting in line, got to move to the next station and get signed up for training. And then moved on to more things. The park is relatively small and right now is not crowded since it's not open. It's quite desolate, actually... It was 45 degrees all day and was raining (my mom thinks it looked like snow), so the dark and wet park wasn't that impressive. Hopefully we dry up soon.

After all the paperwork was finished, checked into housing. I didn't realize that only one set of dorms were open right now since it's pre-season. Maybe in a few weeks I can switch dorms to the "on-Point" housing that is literally 100 feet away from my work. But for now, in the off campus dorms and busing it to and from work.

We went to get some dinner and then went shopping to get some groceries and a mini mini fridge for the summer. Moved the stuff in the dorm and then went to the hotel. Figured I could get an extra night of a really comfy bed before going back to the dorm again. I have training tomorrow and work on Thursday, then I have 3 days off... Don't know what I'll do yet! Adventures await.

Goodnight and welcome to my summer at Cedar Point!

Day 194: Road Trip Day 2

Today we finished driving through Tennessee, made it to Kentucky and Ohio. We are now about 2 hours away from Cedar Point!!

This morning we started out by visiting a small dairy farm named Sweetwater Farm. Their ads all said "Cheese. Cows. Wows!" and we thought it was really funny. After some cheese samples and purchasing some shirts with that slogan, we headed out on the road. It was really rainy today and our travels moved slowly. We stopped at a Culvers for lunch/custard, which was Mom's highlight for the day. Dinner was at Cracker Barrel where we were the ONLY ones eating (at 9:30 pm). I got to drink a hot chocolate with dinner! It is less than 48 degrees out!! Tomorrow's high is only 50. Wooooooo cold! Early morning again, so off to bed.

Kevin and I found a new dance song while we were in the car tonight. Wobble - Family Force 5

Day 193: Road Trip!!!

My mom, brother and I left on our road trip this morning! We went through Florida, Georgia, and are now in Tennessee for the night. It was a really long drive, and we didn't get to our hotel until almost 10pm. Quite a bit of traffic and we saw a lot of damage from the tornadoes the other day while we were driving. I kept falling asleep because I was in the backseat by myself. Surprisingly, I am still quite tired! So we are off to bed here (while watching the news) and are ready for more driving tomorrow...

Goodnight from the cooler weather! <3
